For the last 3 years, we have worked in partnership with the organisation EY to facilitate a Christmas shopping trip for our Service Users. We have provided EY volunteers with Sighted Guide training and they have been able to guide people and assist them with their Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts, making new friends and having a great social event to close the day.
The idea came from an EY employee, Chris Nelson, who got in touch with our charity after he was moved by a personal experience assisting a visually impaired shopper and wanted to do something positive to help blind and visually impaired people in London.
Chris works for the Fraud Investigation and Dispute Services department, and each year they seek nominations from the team for those individuals that have gone above and beyond what may be expected and actively demonstrate the EY values.
Chris Nelson of EY:
In 2015 Chris’ colleagues nominated him for the Building A Better Working World Award which is given to one individual that has shown exceptional commitment to living EYs purpose of Building A Better Working World. Chris was awarded this in 2015 in recognition of creating the partnership between EY and BlindAid which focused on alleviating social exclusion for those who have visual impairment and sight loss within the 12 inner London boroughs.
